Maloof Money Cup NYC Welcomes South Africa Delegation Led by Northern Cape Premier Hazel Jenkins
Kimberley, South Africa will Host the Maloof Money Cup in 2011
(New York, NY – June 6, 2010) — The world’s greatest skateboarding event, the Maloof Money Cup, hosted a delegation from South Africa on Saturday led by the Premier of the Northern Cape Hazel Jenkins. The world’s best professional skateboarders will come together in Kimberley, South Africa, September 30 through October 2, 2011, for the Maloof Money Cup world skateboarding championships. Featuring pro street and pro vert competitions, and televised internationally, MMC South Africa will be viewed by a worldwide audience.
The brand new skater-designed street course and vert ramp built in Kimberley for the competition will be donated to the community after the contest.
The goals of the Maloof Money Cup South Africa are to host an international contest where all countries will have an opportunity to compete; to build a world-class skateboard park and vert ramp that will be donated to the community after the contest, serving as one of the few skateboarding training centers in the world; inspiring youth to take up skateboarding, an affordable and accessible activity; to encourage and stimulate tourism opportunities fostering economic growth in the Northern Cape; and to enhance educational and cultural exchange programs.
The delegation of the Premier included members of the executive council: John Block, Finance, Economic Development and Tourism; Norman Shushu, Agriculture and Land Reform; Alvin Botes, Social Development, Grizelda Cjiekella, Education; as well as representatives from the business community.
“We invited the South African delegation to participate in the first-ever Maloof Money Cup New York contest so they can experience first-hand the excitement and scale of our contest, which we’ll be bringing to Kimberley in September 2011,” said MMC Creator Joe Maloof, owner of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. “Hosting a world-class skateboarding event on the heels of the World Cup will really put the Northern Cape and Kimberley on the map as a premier destination for outdoor sporting events and activities. Skateboarding is a positive, healthy and affordable activity for kids to participate in and we’re excited to bring the skateboarding movement to countries around the world.”
