WORLDWIDE LEADER AND PIONEER IN EXTREME AND ALTERNATIVE ACTION SPORTS PROGRAMMING AND SPECIAL EVENTS, PLANET X, LAUNCHES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Planet X has been a worldwide leader and pioneer in action sports programming and special events since 1995. The show has been a leader in the extreme and alternative action sports television marketplace since its inception, and has maintained its independent status as a pioneer in the multi-billion dollar action sports industry. Its branded television properties air in America and many other worldwide markets – currently estimated in more than 90 million homes.

Planet X captures all the action and adventure of the unique and growing youth culture – from lifestyle, fashion and music to exclusive international content of the world’s top extreme sports athletes. Over the years and with hundreds of episodes produced, the show has documented the growth and development of the extreme and alternative action sports industry, as well as the personalities who have helped build and shape this genre of sport to where it is today.

Action and Extreme sports, once considered the scene of multi-pierced tattooed slackers, have entered the mainstream arena. These high-intensity, individualistic sports, from ultra-hip snowboarding to Moto-X, have encroached upon traditional sports in popularity. While some sports struggle for an audience, viewership has consistently increased each year for such events as the Planet X Summer and Winter Games, ESPN X-Games and the Gravity Games, to name but a few. These new sports are an authentic slice of the wider youth culture and clearly not a short-lived craze.

It is with great excitement that we therefore announce the arrival of Planet X-Africa to the South African market and sporting arena. The worldwide brand of Planet X, complete with all aspects of Extreme Sports culture, music and lifestyle, is now available to the youth of South Africa, whilst the 30 minute weekly television program showcases the explosion of extreme sports both locally and internationally.

Planet X-Africa, the Show, is a compelling and engaging 30 minute magazine style sports series committed to presenting the best that the Extreme and Alternative Action Sports industry has to offer. Planet X’s ground-breaking youth programming is highly entertaining and promotes an active, healthy and exciting lifestyle. The episodes comprise of international Planet X content (current and archived), local South African Planet X footage produced by EDM (Enhanced Digital Media), as well as User Generated Content submitted by local South African producers and viewers.

Planet X-Africa currently airs Wednesday nights in the PRIMETIME slot of 19:00 on VUZU (DSTV Channel 123) with four repeats:

* Wednesday 19:00 (Initial broadcast ~ Primetime Slot)
* Wednesday 00:00

* Thursday 12:00
* Saturday 09:30

Viewers tune-in to see their world, in their language, with programming they are passionate about:

* Sporting events and competitions
* Interviews and profiles
* Behind the scenes footage
* Music performances related to sporting events
* Industry related profiles of personalities, sports gear and products, etc.

Planet X-Africa, the Brand, is committed to providing action sports fans with adrenaline-pumping events, including top level pro- and amateur tournaments, internet activity, community and inclusive interactive media, pro-clinics and demonstrations combined with music, sport, film and lifestyle festivals. It’s not just about reaching viewers – it’s about connecting with them! Planet X-Africa therefore reaches and connects with the ever elusive youth market, both On-Air, Online and On.The.Go.

The show continually explores how this genre of sport is likely to evolve along with the multitude of career paths that this will create and how the viewers can have a vital role in its development, both locally and globally.

The Planet X programming is designed to be highly engaging and interactive with rich internet and mobile components integrated into the mix, thereby encouraging social media networking and promoting User Generated Content.
